Reflections
My single biggest ah hah moment I had in this class was learning how to adapt to the difference in language classes compared to regular core classes. I feel like learning a different language is such a unique skill that requires practice everyday, with a lot of patience. You have to be able to accept that learning a language is so different and that there are many different aspects to learning that language; such as the culture, and the regions in which these languages originated.
My single biggest question I have about this course is that it is complicated to put aside my prejudgments and learn a language from the very bottom. I have learned a certain way my whole life and now that I am learning a completely new concept it is hard to put all of my preconceptions aside and start from scratch. I still don't understand the entire concept behind how to use indirect and direct object pronouns but I am practicing, and will continue to study Spanish over the summer.
In ten years from now if I don't ever travel to a Spanish speaking country or meet friends that speak Spanish, one thing I will remember from this course is to have an open mind. In order to learn a different language you have to be able to accept that it is going to be hard to learn a new language. Also to learn a new language you can't just solely study the language itself, you have to learn about the entire country and culture. I feel like this course has broadened my learning experience because I have learned to not judge other cultures too quickly, and learn how to accept things and learn about things I'm not sure about before I make conceptions.
This class connects with the general education classes I have taken or am current;y taking in many ways. I feel like this class has opened my eyes that all of the classes are very different and that they all teach us unique things but that we need all of these skills to be successful in our future. Each class has its own thing that has to be taught to the students, but this spanish class taught me how to accept that you have to learn thing in different ways to learn in the most efficient way.
